The Sion Panvel Expressway is a 25 km (16 mi) city highway serving the city of Mumbai, India currently under construction. It is one of the busiest and most important roads in the Mumbai Metropolitan Area and connects the city with National Highway 4. It is generally 12 lanes wide (6 lanes in each direction)[1]. The highway begins at BARC Junction Sion and stretches up to Kalamboli Junction Panvel[2].
Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ltd. as directed by Government of Maharashtra proposes to undertake the work of Widening and Improvement of Sion-Panvel Highway including construction of flyovers on BOT basis.
Salient Features of the Project 1) The stretch of road from BARC Junction (Km. 140 / 690) to Kalamboli Junction (Km. 115/800) is about 25 km in length. 2) Total Project cost Rs. 825 Crore (Based on DSR of 2006-2007). a) Base Construction cost Rs. 675 Crore.s 3) The project consists of a) Widening of existing bituminous road to 5+5 lane with concrete pavement. b) Central 3+3 lanes to be access controlled. 4) The Service Roads to be provided whenever required for about 6.29 Km length. 5) To provide signal free passage for through traffic a) 3 new Flyovers at Uran Junction, Sanpada Junction & Kamothe Junction. b) Duplication of flyovers at Taloja and CMLR junctions. 6) For pedestrian crossing Underpasses at 10 locations. 7) Foot over Bridges at 3 locations. 8) Geometric and Junction improvements as per standards. 9) Toll plaza at Vashi to be upgraded to 8+8 lanes a) Toll fee at prescribed rates (current rate) b) Toll period to be quoted by BOT Contractor. 10) Landscaping / Beautification of entire project corridor a) Median plantation b) Road side plantation, Landscaping c) Beautification below flyovers. 11) Renovation / upgradation of existing flyovers, structures. 12) Electrification of entire project corridor. 13) Operation and Maintenance of whole Project Facilities up to end of toll period quoted by BOT Contractor.
